Enrolment

How to enrol

Fernhill School is a Department of Education school that provides educational programs for students who have a primary diagnosis of moderate to severe intellectual disablilty. Students can also have secondary and/or  multiple disabilities.

Enrolment process is via regional placement panel and operates to assess applications for specialist settings and ensure eligibility for your child.

The process of applying for placement in a specialist setting involves:

  1. Making an appointment to visit both school principal and school counsellor at your nearest local primary school.
  2. Ask your local school to complete an access request form for your child to access a specialist setting or a support setting in a mainstream school.Your local school will support you through this process.
  3. You will need to bring along any current assessments and documentation with you to your appointment. If, at this stage, you do not have a current cognitive assessment of your child, the school counsellor at your local school, can assist to complete this assessment at a convenient time to both.
  4. Learning and Support Officers from Department of Education office at Glenfield Office (PH) 9203-9900 are available to discuss your enquiries further.
  5. Once your access request is completed, it is sent to our regional placement panel for assessment of eligibility and suitable placement. The placement panel will keep you informed as your application is processed. They will also advise you that your child has been offered a place in a special setting.

The enrolment process can then commence directly with the school that your child has been offered.
