Betty Campbell (Speech Pathologist) and Kyla Thurtell (Occupational Therapist) have been employed to support school staff in enhancing educational outcomes for all students. Their primary role at Fernhill is to support the teachers and SLSO’s to enable communication for all students and support self regulation in the classroom. As part of their role, Betty and Kyla may provide staff training, work alongside the teachers in the classroom, provide limited individual sessions to students as requested by teachers and liaise with parents & external therapists.
Betty has over 10 years of experience working as a Speech Pathologist in the disability sector (Government, NGO and Private practice). She is passionate about supporting communication for people with complex communication needs. Her areas of interest are in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and literacy for students with disabilities. Betty has experience working with a range of high tech and low tech communication systems. She also supervises student speech pathologists throughout the school term who then support her work at the school. Betty currently works at Fernhill School on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Kyla has been working in the disability field, across various NGO’s, for over 10 years. Over her years working as a therapist she has taken a special interest in sensory processing abilities and the impact this can have across all areas of development. Kyla has extensive training and knowledge in a range of programs and strategies to support individual sensory needs and continues to seek further skills and understanding in this domain. Kyla is passionate about working collaboratively with teachers to support each individual to reach their full potential. Kyla currently works at Fernhill school on Fridays.
