About our school
Fernhill School opened in Glenmore Park in 2017. We are a School for Specific Purpose (SSP) and we support the educational needs of students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. Our students travel from local suburbs, including the Blue Mountains to the west, Wallacia to the south, Bidwell to the east, and Cranebrook to the north. 75% of students utilise the Assisted School Travel Program to attend the school.
The school has excellent facilities and was purpose built to meet the needs of our student population, providing a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment where every student is recognised and supported to achieve their full potential.
Our 129 students are supported across 20 classes, K-12, and all students have a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) that is developed with families and addresses specific curriculum learning areas to enable each individual to become active, confident members of our wider community. Fernhill School community greatly values the power of communication and strives to enable each student to have effective ways to communicate across all settings.
Alongside our curriculum, students take part in programs that build skills in:
- communication
- independence
- life skills
- social skills.
Our classrooms are set up to meet each student’s needs. We make sure students feel safe, respected and ready to learn in a way that suits them. Our staff are caring and committed to engaging all students in high quality learning, helping students feel confident, connected and proud of who they are.
Our school uses a placement process. Enrolment occurs through a formal referral. Families and schools can contact us if they think our school might be right for their child. To learn more, visit our enrolment enquiries page.
